Wills and estate planning

It is entirely understandable why some people are reluctant to prepare a will, viewing it as an onerous process and very often believing that their personal circumstances mean it is not important or even necessary.

The reality, however, in almost all circumstances couldn’t be more different. Writing a will is often one of the single most important things that anyone can do during their lifetime to ensure that, upon their death, their wishes are followed.

Preparing a personal will ensures that your estate is dealt with in accordance with your instructions.

When one passes without a will being in place, they are deemed to have died ‘intestate’ which means that the law will determine how their estate is distributed, potentially very differently from what the individual might have wished for.

Depending upon circumstances, these wishes may include financial affairs, property and land, businesses, belongings and items of particular financial or sentimental value.

We will guide you through the process, keeping it as straight forward as possible, providing you with pragmatic advice to ensure that, upon your passing, your wishes will be followed.

By their very nature, wills are personal documents and, as such, we at New Wave Law always take the time to listen to and fully understand our clients’ wishes. We then tailor and structure the will and send a draft copy for our clients to review and approve. Once finalised, signed and witnessed, we will store the document securely.
